Chattogram Town Hall Meeting Brings Together 115 Nirapon Program Factories

Chattogram Town Hall Meeting Brings Together 115 Nirapon Program Factories

Nirapon held a Town Hall meeting in Chattogram on September 28, bringing together more than 200 participants from 115 Nirapon program factories. The turnout and the quality of the discussion reflected both the safety commitment of factories in the region and the result of sustained engagement by Nirapon and its members.

Nirapon CEO Lewis Temple and Director of Worker Safety Rick Ogden opened the day. Nirapon safety analysts, together with the manager of the safety management system, then shared the quarter’s safety results, the worker helpline, the updated 90-Day workbook and dashboard, and training updates. The day closed with practical sessions on gas safety and on heat stress and dust management.

Nirapon Board Chair Simone Sultana moderated a panel with three factory representatives. They discussed how behavior has changed in their factories and why safety works better as an integral part of business rather than as an extra requirement. During the Q&A session, factories asked questions about the safety issues they handle in their day-to-day work.

These discussions came against a backdrop of steady progress across the Nirapon Safety Management Program. The safety results shared at the meeting showed that in Q2, 86 percent of Nirapon program factories were active, up from 79 percent, with good practice recorded more widely across all nine tracked safety topics.

Feedback received through a survey at the end of the meeting highlighted electrical safety, dust and housekeeping, clarity on closing corrective actions, and hands-on support with hazard identification and risk assessment as priority areas. This input will guide how Nirapon provides resources, tools, and guidance, working in partnership with factories and members to advance worker and workplace safety across factories in Bangladesh.
